After opening his first store, NOWHERE, with UNDERCOVER’s Jun Takahashi, Japanese designer Tomoaki “Nigo” Nagao launched A Bathing Ape, or BAPE, in 1993. Emerging from Tokyo’s Ura-Harajuku scene, the name of the brand was inspired by the 1968 film Planet of the Apes, and the Japanese idiom “a bathing ape in lukewarm water” as an irreverent nod to Japanese youth’s penchant for overconsumption.
BAPE has exerted an untold influence on global style since its founding. From Comme des Garçons and Coca-Cola to Kanye West and A$AP Rocky, the brand’s list of collaborators is exhaustive. Spanning apparel, sneakers, accessories and more, common identifiers of the brand include the 1ST CAMO pattern, shark-face motif and Ape Head logo. Several sublines have stemmed from the BAPE lineage, including AAPE, BABY MILO, BAPE BLACK and MR. BATHING APE.
What sizes does BAPE come in?
BAPE products are available in men’s, women’s and kids’ sizes.
For men, clothing runs from size small (S) through extra extra large (XXL).
For women, clothing runs from size extra extra small (XXS) through large (L).
For kids, clothing runs from size 70 (6 months) through 160 (14-16 years).

BAPESTA
BAPE’s flagship sneaker is the Bapesta. An interpretation of Nike’s Air Force 1, the sneaker is known for its patent leather construction, providing it with a gleaming complexion.
Unlike the Air Force 1, which runs big, Bapestas fits true to size. People with wider feet may want to go a half size up for extra room. When buying women’s, men should go a size and a half down.
Sk8 Sta
The BAPE Sk8 Sta emerged during the Y2K era along with models such as the Roadsta. Where the Bapesta takes cues from the Nike Air Force 1, the Sk8 Sta is a reimagining of the Nike Dunk.
