Nike founder Phil Knight founded Laika Studios, and released their first first full-length animated film, Coraline, in February 2009. Limited to just 100 pairs, this Nike Dunk High ‘Coraline’ never saw a retail release. Instead the shoes were acquired through a secret code in the movie’s credits which unlocked a shoe box on the film’s promotional website. Inspired by director Henry Selick’s hand-crafted style, the shoe features a two-tone grey canvas upper highlighted by hand-sewn visible seams and black stitching reminiscent of details in the film. Black buttons emerge on the tongue and eyelets as a further nod to the movie, while a glow-in-the dark outsole finishes the look.
