In 2002, Nike enlisted Japanese retailer atmos to create an Air Max 1 collaboration to celebrate the silhouette’s 15th anniversary. The result was this Air Max 1 B 'Atmos Safari.’ Inspired by the 1987 Air Safari silhouette designed by Tinker Hatfield, it features a Safari print on the mudguard and ankle collar, canvas at the toe, suede on the upper and heel, and a gum outsole underfoot. It also notably features a miniature Swoosh on the lateral forefoot. The Air Max 1 Safari was also re-released in 2016 with a hairy suede toe box and an icy blue translucent outsole.
