Paul Van Doren, James Van Doren, Gordon Lee and Serge Delia founded the Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California in 1966. Initially creating and selling shoes on-site at its retail location, its original model, now known as the Authentic, helped establish the company and its signature vulcanized rubber sole as a favorite among local skateboarders throughout the 1970s. At a time when skateboarding was largely considered a fad, Vans championed what skating could become, working alongside names like Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva to create new designs like the Style 95 and Style 36 (known today as the Vans Era and Old Skool, respectively). By the end of the 20th century, Vans' range of sneakers were synonymous with the sport. Associated with the label since its launch, this vintage T-shirt features the original Vans logo across the center chest.
