Isamu Noguchi began designing his Akari light sculptures in 1951 with Ozeki & Co., Ltd. Produced to this day by the same company in Gifu, Japan, the Akari series reinterprets the aesthetics of traditional Japanese lanterns with contemporary functionality and forms. Each lamp is handmade of mulberry bark washi paper exterior and bamboo ribbing. Painted by FUTURA2000 in collaboration with The Noguchi Museum as a followup to the pair’s "Futura Akari" exhibition, the Akari 1AR is characterized by the NYC artist’s style over Noguchi’s screen-printed design, resulting in a 1-of-1 version of the iconic lamp. This collaborative Akari edition is numbered 14 of 25 and measures 17" H x 10" W x " 10" D.
