Milan is home to some of the world’s most iconic fashion brands, from Prada and Marni to Bottega Veneta and Versace. For more than a century, the city’s creative output and unique sense of street style has informed the global marketplace. Today, Milan’s sartorial powerhouses shape wider culture and affect our visual language, seen in the personal expression of artists such as Tyler, The Creator, A$AP Rocky and Harry Styles.

The Italian metropolis is fueled by design that’s both intelligent and impassioned, with a focus on craftsmanship that underscores much of what makes Milan’s fashion so rich. Tradition and trendiness frequently integrate on the street and on the runway, with a throughline of elegant sensibility—a staple of brands like Jil Sander and Moncler, who have both made Milan their adopted home.

Below, draw from the city’s most influential fashion houses with a curated collection highlighting Italian style.

Bottega Veneta Padded Candy Cassette Shoulder Bag 'Parakeet/Silver'

The Candy Cassette marries three of the house’s most iconic motifs: Bottega Green (the bright shade that underscored much of Daniel Lee’s three-year tenure), an oversized, puffed-up weave that reimagines the classic intrecciato technique and signature triangle detailing. Combined, the trio confidently balances the house’s heritage with contemporary flair.

Prada Cloudbust Thunder Knit Sneaker ‘Black’

Miuccia Prada is among the best-known custodians of the “dad shoe” trend and since its SS18 debut, the Cloudbust Thunder has been a key player within the brand’s sports-inflected lineup. Stylistically aligned with sci-fi motifs and boasting a chunky, light rubber sole, it’s a choice sneaker for a stomp between the Fondazione Prada’s two Milan venues.

Miu Miu x New Balance 574 Denim 'Colonial Beige'

The New Balance 574 marked Miu Miu’s first sportswear collaboration, hailing from a collection that shaped much of 2022’s womenswear discourse. While the model’s beige appearance suggests a safe option, the frayed detail implies a rebellious streak.

Marni x Carhartt WIP Trousers 'Sunflower'

These Marni trousers interrogate the signature characteristics of Carhartt WIP’s classic workwear, striking the perfect note between fun and functional. The bright yellow flowers could only come from Marni, a house known for colorful prints and patterns.

Versace Metal Bracelet 'Tribute Gold'

While the phenomenon surrounding Versace first emerged in the ’90s via a catalog of statuesque party dresses, the Medusa icon is the house’s real hero. Here, set against the chunky proportions of the bracelet’s bold chain link, the motif has timeless appeal.

Palm Angels V Colorblock Track Jacket 'Cobalt/Blue'

Palm Angels was founded on the principles of Italian craftsmanship. The brand’s founder, Francesco Ragazzi, grew up in Milan and simultaneously serves as creative director of Moncler. With this retro-flavored track top, he unites the various subcultures from which his own label borrows, gently alluding to winter sports with a cold color palette.

Moncler x fragment design Quilted Shiny Outerwear Skirt 'Black'

Founded in France in 1952, Moncler has been a Milanese staple since 2003. Under Hiroshi Fujiwara’s direction, this Moncler x fragment design skirt reappropriates the brand’s hero piece—the puffer jacket—with a contemporary edge courtesy of the Japanese label. The addition of a side zipper and a handsome display of pockets brings both a functional and stylistic elevation to the garment.

Stone Island Shadow Project Jacket 'Green'

Utilitarian concepts and striking design have informed Stone Island’s approach to fashion since the brand was first launched in the early ’80s. This Shadow Project jacket is no different. Its glossy, water-repelling fabrication and double-fastening closures are nothing if not practical. The eye-catching color and delicate print will serve you well in the crowds surrounding the Duomo di Milan.

Jil Sander Medium Fill Down Gilet Vest 'Vanilla'

Adopted by Milan over 20 years ago, German-bred label Jil Sander has long been a guarantor of refined, minimal design principles, as this vanilla gilet suggests. Part of the brand’s SS21 offering under Lucie and Luke Meier, the vest is reminiscent of a cloud with all the tactile properties of a pillow. Plus, it packs away into a small bag.

Gucci Ophidia Jumbo GG Mini Bag 'Camel/Ebony'

Ever since Gucci premiered the double-G back in the 1930s it has been a mainstay of the Italian fashion house, a firm fixture reinvented several times over. In this latest iteration, the house plays with proportion, upscaling the logo and reducing the dimensions of the bag itself for a modern reading of a timeless classic.
