By the time Michael Jordan stepped onto the court at the 1996 NBA All-Star Game, he had already cemented his status as one of the league’s greatest players ever, only months away from winning his fourth championship and the first in a second three-peat.

Held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, the game marked Jordan’s first All-Star appearance since the ‘93-’94 season, following a brief stint in Minor League Baseball. A turquoise uniform was designed for players from the Eastern Conference, an inadvertently perfect complement for the sneakers worn by MJ: a new colorway of the Air Jordan 11, dubbed 'Columbia.'

Designed by Nike legend Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 11 featured a ballistic mesh upper meant to make the silhouette lighter and more durable than past models. Additional details included a carbon fiber spring plate in a translucent outsole, in addition to a patent leather mudguard, a lightweight and more resilient material compared to genuine leather.

Initially conceived in a ‘White/Black-Dark Concord’ colorway, Jordan put on a clinic in the 'Columbia,' scoring 20 points and receiving the game’s MVP award, while introducing the world to a glossy white mudguard and an icy blue outsole reminiscent of MJ’s North Carolina alma mater.

Dormant for nearly 20 years, a mid-top version of the All-Star classic released in 2014, officially returning as 'Legend Blue.' Seven years later the colorway is back, this time in the form of a Jordan 11 Retro Low.

The 2021 iteration features the celebrated palette of the original, pairing a white and black base with frosty accents of 'Legend Blue.' Familiar details include '23' on the heel and a branded tongue ribbon, while an icon on the shoe’s insole marks the 25th anniversary of the original’s debut.

A white midsole is loaded with Zoom Air and a black/blue carbon fiber plate adds further support. One notable difference is a slightly smaller Jumpman logo towards the rear, scaled down to fit the low-top design.

Releasing April 24, 2021, the Jordan 11 Retro Low 'Legend Blue' sets up the next chapter of the storied silhouette, presenting a contemporary take on an all-time classic. 25 years after the original was first revealed, the legend is back.
