FutureCraft 4D Sample
In April 2017, adidas hosted an invite-only preview of its innovative Futurecraft 4D runner in New York City ahead of its January 2018 release. At the close of the event, 300 hand-numbered samples of this black and Ash Green colorway were given to guests. The shoe's innovative midsole was engineered by Digital Light Synthesis, a technology that manufactures 3D objects by mixing light and oxygen with programmable liquid resins. 3D-printing not only reduces production time and the waste caused by prototyping and molding, but also enables a latticework of 20,000 struts in the midsole to be individually customized based on athletic data. The futuristic runner also boasts a black Primeknit upper with reflective Three-Stripes on the side panels, engineered ventilation zones for improved breathability, and a Continental rubber outsole.
