As warm summer weather fizzles out, another fashion calendar comes to a close. The Spring/Summer 2024 women’s season brought forth an abundance of sartorial developments, from the rise of ruffles, flounces and frills to double denim and experimental suiting.

New York kicked off the “Big Four” with Peter Do’s anticipated debut for Helmut Lang. Unveiled in a cavernous space on the Lower East Side, the Vietnam-born designer disrupted the ’90s brand’s trademark minimalism with romantic archetypes and subtle nods to its artistic heritage. Elsewhere, hometown heroes LUAR and Willy Chavarria showcased their unique perspectives on tailoring in widely lauded presentations.

Across the Atlantic, Sabato De Sarno made his much-anticipated bow with Gucci in Milan, peeling back from the maximalism that defined his predecessor, Alessandro Michele, in favor of an altogether cleaner aesthetic. At Prada, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons presented sculptural collars and workwear jackets, while Bottega Veneta creative director Matthieu Blazy captivated his audience with architectural dresses inspired by world travel.

Wrapping up in Paris, Acne Studios’ Jonny Johansson brought an “elevated industrial” sensibility to the label’s signature denim, juxtaposed against wabi-sabi clubwear elements. Rick Owens’ now-trademark fabric loops encapsulated his approach of reducing clothing to base-level forms. UNDERCOVER’s Jun Takahashi explored themes of loss, sending out terrarium skirts featuring fresh flowers and live butterflies that were set free after the show.

From August through October, high-profile guests and insiders traversed the globe, dressing in line with weather conditions. Below, a roundup of the season’s best street style looks as captured by Eseniya Araslanova, Seinosuke Tanaka, Jimin Jeon and Asia Typek.

Copenhagen Fashion Week SS24

Copenhagen got the SS24 fashion calendar underway with runway presentations from both Danish and international designers. Faced with inclement weather, guests attended shows in lightweight layers, providing a preview of trends to expect this fall. Outerwear ranged from transitional jackets to trench coats. Tops spanned button-up shirts and argyle vests. Accent accessories punctuated understated outfits, while classic sneakers in bold colorways stood out against boots and mules rendered in tones of black and brown.

Tokyo Fashion Week SS24

Against the backdrop of late-summer weather, attendees arrived in Tokyo in transitional styles. Tank tops, short-sleeve tees and sleeveless vests were paired with oversized bottoms, ranging from ripped jeans to pleated chinos. Jewelry and sunglasses elevated both casual and formal looks, while footwear spanned boots, loafers and unconventional sneakers.

Seoul Fashion Week SS24

Loose and oversized silhouettes were a prevailing theme at Seoul Fashion Week, highlighted by elongated sleeves and voluminous bottoms. Distressed denim, leather jackets and bondage-style hardware conveyed a hard-edged aesthetic, while ties of various proportions continued to be a dominant accessory.

New York Fashion Week SS24

In New York City, casual shirting featured heavily alongside skirts, the latter sometimes deployed as a layering element. Denim was another prevalent theme, from jeans that enveloped the entire shoe to cropped fits and shorts. Tops spanned graphic tees, tank tops and statement coats, while boots were well accounted for alongside an array of sneakers.

London Fashion Week SS24

Back in Europe, avant-garde styles collided with utilitarian pieces at London Fashion Week, while streetwear and sneakers were heavily accounted for, tempered by boots and more formal silhouettes. Elsewhere, highlights included statement leather coats, sheer tops and treated cargo pants, collectively embodying the diverse tastes that defined the week.

Milan Fashion Week SS24

As warm weather cooled to a more temperate level in the Italian fashion capital, attendees opted for layering and transitional items. Oversized suit jackets were paired with sweatpants, while sculptural dresses reflected conceptual ideas seen on the runway. Against this experimental backdrop, monochromatic styling offered a more pared-back perspective.

Paris Fashion Week SS24

Paris closed out the SS24 fashion calendar with internationally renowned brands and designers presenting their latest collections. On the streets of the French capital, suiting styles reflected recent runway trends, juxtaposed against tank tops, tees and vests. Bottoms spanned jeans, skirts and shorts, styled to play with gender expectations. Vibrant accessories accentuated subdued attire, with fall-ready boots and sneakers in earthy colors defining the week.
