Rick Owens Size and Fit Guide
An overview covering the size and fit of the American designer’s apparel and footwear.

Since launching in 1994, few other fashion designers have amassed the same level of critical acclaim and cult fandom as Rick Owens. The label was initially embraced by style avant-gardists and “goth ninjas” (a term coined by the online “dark fashion” institution StyleZeitgeist). The label introduced menswear in 2004, and in the 2010s, exploded among a new audience thanks to hip-hop culture and style visionaries like A$AP Rocky. Today, the Owens universe is vast, exploring a range of stylistic genres while never straying far from high-fashion experimentation.
For many, sneakers are the entry point to Rick Owens, while others are initially attracted to iconic apparel items like the drawstring and aircut pants. In 2005, the DRKSHDW line was introduced, a sub-label that uses different materials from the main line and is known for re-releasing items previously seen in the main line or on the runway, but with minor differences. For example, shoes like the Ramones appear in both the main line and DRKSHDW, with slight differences in DRKSHDW’s eyelets and shape.

Rick Owens Sneakers Size and Fit
Rick Owens established his umbrella company, Owenscorp, in 2004. Not long after, he previewed an early attempt at a sneaker, the Dunk, as part of his FW05 ‘Moog’ collection. The fully realized silhouette was rolled out as part of the following year’s FW06 ‘Dustulator’ collection, drawing attention for its similarities to Nike, adidas and PUMA sneakers. Owens admitted the similarities, saying he wanted to “exoticize” typical sportswear silhouettes.
Generally, Rick Owens sneakers fit true to size with exceptions dependent on the model. Most styles should fit comfortably in your usual size, though some recommend going down one size if you prefer a snug fit. Rick Owens leather shoes will stretch with wear, so if they feel tight initially, they should loosen up over time. Since SS20, Rick Owens’ main line has introduced removable insoles similar to the main line, resulting in a fit similar to DRKSHDW.
Below, a size guide to shoes from the Rick Owens main and DRKSHDW lines.
Rick Owens Main Line Sneakers Size and Fit
Ramones
Some people prefer to go a half or full size down in Rick Owens Ramones for a snugger fit. Otherwise, take your normal size.
Sock Ramones
Rick Owens Sock Ramones run big. People generally prefer to go a full or even two sizes down for a tighter fit. This depends on the width of your feet.
Geobasket
While the Geobasket ran big in the past, versions in more recent years fit true to size. It is recommended to take your normal size in Geobaskets.
Dunks
The Dunk series was discontinued and replaced with the Geobasket due to a cease and desist from Nike in 2008. The shoes generally fit true to size.
Veja Collaborations
Although Rick Owens’ Veja collaborations generally fit true to size, some people prefer to go up a size for more room.
Rick Owens DRKSHDW Sneakers Size and Fit
Ramones
Some people prefer to go a half size down in DRKSHDW Ramones for a snugger fit. Otherwise, take your normal size.
Sock Ramones
The DRKSHDW Sock Ramones don’t run as big as the main line iterations. You can go a half size up for more room, or a full size up if you have wider feet.
Rick Owens Apparel Size and Fit
Rick Owens’ apparel is informed by gothic aesthetics that combine sportswear silhouettes with luxury tailoring. This creative ethos is reflected in seasonal collections, generally exploring oversized fits composed of draped garments. Because of this unique visual language, apparel by Rick Owens can fit individual body types differently.
How does Rick Owens apparel fit?
Most main line pants and tops fit true to size. DRKSHDW bottoms and tops also tend to fit true to size, and can be adjusted with drawstrings. However, there is no uniform rule to Rick Owens sizing, as the brand’s apparel sizing is inconsistent and meant to drape over the body.
What sizes does Rick Owens apparel come in?
Rick Owens began in womenswear and later branched into menswear. Today, the house’s items are available in full family sizes for men, women and kids.
