Beyond acting, Dennis Hopper had a reputation as an artist, painter and photographer. In 'Colors, The Polaroids' Hopper focuses his lens on gang graffiti in Los Angeles, exploring the way the designs overlap and intersect as they are written over or covered up. Playing with the disposable nature of Polaroids, Hopper's photographs and the book as a whole examine how art can be both an impermanent yet ever-present part of a particular location. While the images within the volume were shot by Hopper just before directing the 1988 film 'Colors,' the 132-page collection was published by Damiani in 2016, six years after Hopper's death.
