Nigo founded A Bathing Ape in Tokyo in 1993, naming the brand after the 1968 sci-fi film ‘Planet of the Apes’ and a Japanese idiom referring to decadence. Better known as BAPE, the brand helped define early streetwear aesthetics, outfitting apparel and sneakers in iconic motifs, including the Ape Head logo and 1ST CAMO pattern. Today, these designs are visible across an extensive product catalog, from hoodies and T-shirts to sweaters and jackets.
