Waking Up to LA’s New Nightlife With Saintwoods
The Canadian duo on building a home for Los Angeles’ creative community and why Miami is next.
Nathan Gannage and Zach Macklovitch think that parties should be comfortable. So it’s no wonder that under their creative agency, Saintwoods, the two have launched many successful endeavors, from nightlife to music curation to loungewear. While on the surface there may not be an obvious connection between sweatpants and Los Angeles’ hip new venue Apt 200, it’s Gannage and Macklovitch’s community values which serve as a through line between the two. The duo, who met over 10 years ago in their native Canada, have created an empire under the Saintwoods umbrella that caters to an entire social experience they felt was missing from their community, one centered on good music, interesting people, top-notch architecture and an egalitarian sensibility.
While the two friends have already dominated Canadian nightlife for the better part of a decade, they turned to LA for their first stateside endeavor. The entrepreneurs found West Hollywood to be the perfect home for their new space. Its ethos is antithetical to many of its neighboring venues, which more often than not intentionally cultivate a perceived sense of exclusivity. Opened in late 2022 following COVID-related setbacks, Gannage and Macklovitch established Apt 200 as a unique experience for Los Angeles. Though they’ve only been open for six months, Apt 200 is already hosting sets by impressive names, from Anderson .Paak to Kaytranada.
Below, GOAT talks with Gannage and Macklovitch about their Canadian roots, the intersection of nightlife and fashion, and their plans for the next Apt 200 location.
I looked around the room and it was everything from DJs and rappers to creative directors, models and skaters.
